Taking on the Military Industrial Complex
by TRNN
Endless wars, abuse of powers, declining living standards, and the climate change crisis—the stakes couldn't be greater in the US 2008 presidential elections. And with your help, we're moving our news operation to Washington, DC, where we'll focus on money and corruption.

For example, big oil and arms companies shape American economic and foreign policy with far-reaching effects on the lives of ordinary people, with allies in government, trade unions, the media, and the think tanks. They are a hidden hand that controls the commanding heights of American politics.

PAUL JAY, SENIOR EDITOR, TRNN: Endless wars, abuse of powers, declining living standards, and the climate change crisis—the stakes couldn't be greater in the US 2008 presidential elections.

Taking on the industrial-military complex is what real change requires. Even former presidents and high administration officials have said so, but corporate television news treats such positions as marginal. Well, we think it's the decisive issue in the coming presidential elections.

Uncompromising journalism requires questioning assumption, interrogating structures of wealth and power. Corporate TV news just won't do it. Only a news organization that's truly independent can tackle such issues with courage and tenacity. And we'll take on corporate TV news live.

You'll watch TV news with our panel of writers, journalists, scientists, historians. You'll be able to join in by phone, web cam, chat. Together, we'll discuss and debate what's the real story and take on the myth and the propaganda. But this is only possible if you support us now. We need to prove that a viewer-funded model works.

So if you want The Real News, we need you now. Please click on the donate button and give generously. Now is the time to decide if you want The Real News to thrive.

I became a fan of this news in Sept 2007 before they officially started and been contributing monthly donation since. This is amazing idea and I hope the theory that a new media can survive merely by donations from regular ppl will be proven right.

This is going to be a great initiative. Long live TRN ;p!

You're wonderful. Thank you. We're already making a regular donation but we're going to make a special donation to help this enhanced effort in Washington.

What could be more important to a democracy than courageous, independent media fostering independent thought? Come on everyone, give what you can, even if it's a small amount. A small contribution from everybody lets Real News scrutinized our institutions which makes us ALL STRONGER, even those who are asleep.

Bravo, Paul Jay. NBC is owned by General Electric Corp. GE feeds out of the Pentagon budget. In a sense, NBC is a subsidiary of the Pentagon. GE's profits rise and fall with the US military budget and with financial interests on Wall Street. NBC knows enough not to bite the hand that owns it. The confict of interests in corporate, "mainstream" news media is blatant. Enter The Real News. Courageous and independent news. Bravo Paul Jay.

I love the Real News Network and have been a monthly contributor since, well, close to their beginnings, I think. Couldn't live without it and I know I know more because of it.

I'm just joe citizen here. I don't make that much money, but i donated $95 two days ago. Paul is dead right. The corporate media will not tell the truth. They can't. There's too much money pressuring them to avoid the important stories and report on news in a way that incites fear, confusion and apathy.
