Last week, I went down to the festivities in Victoria's picturesque inner harbour. Tens of thousands of Victorians, and tourists gathered on the lawn of the provincial legislature buildings to enjoy a free musical program, paid for by the government, in honour of the province's 150th anniversary.

The only clouds on the horizon of that idyllic summer's day were the appearance of right-wing, corpo-fascists, premier Gordon Campbell, and his uber lord, prime minister, Stephen Harper.

Though no lunch was provided, free or otherwise, it seems there are no free concerts either; the price to be paid for this shindig was listening to Mr. Harper stump for an election yet to be called.

Canada is a nation engaged in an illegal war of occupation in Afghanistan. Canada's troops, "our" troops, are following the 'Rules of Engagement' as dictated by Operation Enduring Freedom leader, the United States. The U.S., in its turn, adopted said "rules" straight from the Israeli Defense Force, who have had many years to perfect the methods of persecution required to destroy a society and subjugate its survivors.

While I and a small clutch of other outraged Canadians voiced objection to this state of affairs, the majority of the good citizens in attendance were there to Partay! and wanted none of it. I mention this because I'm curious: Are those partying Canadians, and their tourist cousins from America then complicit in the war crimes occurring daily in Afghanistan?

Robert Jensen is an author, media critiic, and professor of journalism at the University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism. His book titles include: 'Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity,' 'The Heart of Whiteness: Confronting Race, Racism and White Privilege,' and 'Citizens of the Empire: The Struggle to Claim Our Humanity.'

Robert Jensen is appearing today and tomorrow in Vancouver at the Interfaith Summer Institute for Justice, Peace and Social Movements symposium at the Simon Fraser Harbour Centre. Robert Jensen in the first segment.

And; It's one of the planet's biggest corporations, but is hardly known outside the business world. Chances are, just about everything you will eat or drink today, and everyday, has passed first through the hands of Cargill Incorporated.

In 1995, Canadian farmer, educator, publisher, broadcaster, and author, Brewster Kneen wrote 'Invisible Giant: Cargill and It's Transnational Strategies,' and at the request of Pluto Press revisited the subject for a second edition.

Kneen says:
  • "I was shocked and amazed at the changes I found since the first edition appeared." Brewster Kneen in the second segment.

And; wayward Gorilla Radio correspondent, Janine Bandcroft will grace us at the bottom of the hour with tales of her recent sojourn through America with the Pastors for Peace caravan to Cuba. But first, Robert Jensen and the prophetic challenge: Who is guilty, when all are responsible?
