Pacific Free Press was launched in March 2007 by Dutch-Canadian Richard
Kastelein of V.O.F. Expathos, in the Netherlands along with Chris Cook- CFUV radio journalist and Editor in Chief of Pacific Free Press. Cook is based in , Victoria, British Columbia.
The site is a sister to Atlantic Free Press and Brick Ogden an American Expatriate in Amsterdam has been a key supporter of this project.
The mission of Pacific Free Press is simple: to dig out nuggets of truth from
the slag-heap of lies, ignorance and witless diversion that has buried
public discourse today. Pacific Free Press provides a new venue for
disseminating hard news and insightful, fact-based analysis of the
harsh realities too often ignored or distorted by the mainstream press.
Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Andrea Licata, Joan Russow, J9 - Monday April 21, 2008

Italian scholar, author, and campaigner against both Air Base Aviano
and the proliferation of American and NATO military bases spreading
around the world; Joan Russow on watching the Security and Prosperity Partners in New Orleans; Janine Bandcroft brings us up to speed with all that's good going-on in and around Victoria in the coming week.
Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. Today the United States runs military bases in more than a
hundred and twenty countries around the world. There is resistance to
the American presence in many of those countries, but so far threats
and payoffs to local rulers has sufficed to maintain America's military
"bootprint" abroad.
Vicenza is in Italy's picturesque northeast, close
to the borders with Austria and remnant Yugoslavia. The cross-roads
region is no stranger to militaries of various stripes traversing its
territory, but the citizens of Vicenza have insisted for almost a
decade now that the American air base at Aviano be repatriated.
Andrea Licata is an
Italian scholar, author, and campaigner against both Air Base Aviano
and the proliferation of American and NATO military bases spreading
around the world. His first book, 'From Military to Civil: The
Preemptive Conversion of the USAF Base at Aviano' argues the economic
profitability of beating that spear into plowshares for Italians.
Andrea is currently speaking across North America at the invitation of
the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space, a broad
coalition of peace and anti-militarism organizations, with the 'No
Bases Tour.' Andrea Licata in the first segment.
And; today,
Stephen Harper met with Mexican president Filipe Calderon and out-going
U.S. president George W. Bush in New Orleans. The meetings are a
continuation of the now annual so-named 'Three Amigos Summit,' meant to
shore up relations among the three principals of NAFTA, the North
America Free Trade Agreement.
What's on the agenda of this year's
confab is not a matter deemed worthy of public scrutiny, but activist
following the backdoor deal-making characterizing these get togethers
say the SPP, or Security and Prosperity Partnership billed at the top
of the agenda is nothing less than the means of undoing democracy in
the three nations, making finally official corporatist rule for
'Fortress North America.'
Joan Russow is a long-time Victoria-based
activist, co-founder of the Ecological Rights Association, the
Vancouver Island Human Rights Coalition, and the Global Compliance
Research Project, former leader of and candidate for the Green Party of
Canada.
Dr. Russow has a long and distinguished record of
environmental activism locally and globally, and she'll be here in the
second half to discuss the issues Stephen Harper and his "amigos"
daren't utter publicly.
And; Janine Bandcroft will be here at
the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that's good to
do in and around Victoria in the coming week. But first, Andrea Licata
and Italians saying there is no basis for continued American bases.
