Farley Mowat Attacked by Mob of Angry Fishermen
by SSCS

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s ship, the Farley Mowat, was attacked this morning by a mob of 30-40 angry fishermen. The attack took place while berthed in the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon.

The Farley Mowat was berthed in St. Pierre to transfer video footage of the Canadian seal slaughter onto shore and await the resumption of the slaughter, which was temporarily suspended after the death of four sealers.

Tensions quickly escalated in St. Pierre as the growing mob hurled rocks, threats, and insults at crew members of the Farley Mowat. Cameraman Simeon Houtman was assaulted by an axe-wielding fisherman after stepping onshore to film the incident. “The fisherman raised the axe above his head with one arm and tried to knock Simeon back with his other. Simeon jumped back onto the ship just before the mob threw our gangplank into the water,” said Peter Hammarstedt, First Officer of the Farley Mowat.

Captain Alex Cornelissen requested assistance from the French police--at least half a dozen of whom were present at the scene--but they did nothing to defend the ship or crew against the mob. Instead, the police suggested that Sea Shepherd should leave St. Pierre immediately.

Captain Cornelissen explained to the police that it would take some time to warm the engines in order to leave port safely and avoid serious engine damage. He requested protection during that time, but the police did nothing other than stand by and watch as fishermen hacked at the mooring lines of the Farley Mowat with an axe and ripped the gangplank from the ship, setting it dangerously adrift into the harbor.

After the mob severed head and bow-spring lines from the bollards, Sea Shepherd crew members scurried to pull in lines and prevent them from drifting back towards the screw or into the bowthruster. “The mob responded with a rain of stones and rocks that were thrown with the intent to injure,” said Hammarstedt.

Without engine power, the Farley Mowat drifted uncontrollably in serious danger of crashing into nearby rocks and/or ships in the harbor. Captain Cornelissen had no choice but to start the engines cold--risking irreparable damage--in order to avoid a potentially lethal collision.

Although the Farley Mowat was able to escape the hostile crowd at St. Pierre, the extent of engine damage sustained remains undetermined. Fortunately, all crew members were on board during the attack, and no-one was injured.

The fisherman should give each other a big clap on the back - they are as BARBARIC on land as they are at sea.
Their behavior toward the seals they bludgeon is so very similar to this incident, that I think they must be very good at what they do.
This is ARCHAIC, and they no right to behave this way toward people who want this disgusting practice ended once and for all.

Seals are a natural resourse. As such, harvesting them in a manner that will not endanger the species, does not seem unreasonable. The people that go out to harvest them take no pleasure in what they are doing other than making a living and putting food on their table for their families.
Seals are living creatures no better or worse than any other. If they had a face like a catfish,I am sure none of this would be happening.
Where is the outcry for all the fish species that are being fished to extinction?
As long as there are lots of seals, harvesting some is just a good use of a renewable resourse.

this type of vessel does not need a warm up time for the engines, it can start and be moved with in seconds. A for being told/forcing 'the protesters' to leave french waters if they french do not want them in their waters and the police aggries with them than they should just go away. it seems that they are not wanted around here so why wont they just go away. they just egtting in the way and making a dangerious job even more dangerious

Typical example
written by Bridget Curran, April 06, 2008
The recent actions of fishermen in St-Pierre-Miquelon is another prime example of how sealers and their supporters seem to feel violence is the solution to every problem in their life. They shoot, bludgeon, impale on metal hooks and drag conscious and struggling seal pups for the sake of a few extra dollars. They physically assault law-abiding observers both on and off the ice simply because the observers document the cruelty. They utter threats and intimidate those who dare speak up in opposition to the annual slaughter. In sealing and fishing communities in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, mob mentality rules and critics are silenced by intimidation and physical violence.
Why then do these people expect us to condone and forgive their hunger for violence simply because they are moved to tears by the death of four of their own?

The death of those sealers is truly tragic, however, that tragedy must not overshadow the tragedy of the horrifically violent death they inflict on hundreds of thousands of helpless baby seals each year.

And no, not all of the men out there are bludgeoning seals because they have to. William Murphy of Port Hood makes enough money from his other fishing ventures - he certainly does not need the spare cash he gets from bashing baby grey and harp seals to death.

Seals are voracious predators who happen to be "cute"; a trait that allows groups like the Sea shepherd Society to refill their coffers each spring. In my opinion Paul Watson is a vile excuse for a human being who will lie to a gullable public. Seals are increasing in numbers rapidly and their numbers much be controlled. This article is a prime example of unbalanced reporting.

Why don't you Tree Hugger's take a visit to Japan and watch the dolphin slaughter where they literally drag the dolphin to the processing plant by tying it to a truck.
Try a trip to a slaughter house in NY or Boston; afraid aren't you....the people who own these slaughter houses and you know who I am talking about; would have your assholes hanging next to the sides of beef in a minute.
Probably the way to get rid of Watson and the likes of you is to get the people who own the slaughter houses involved in the seal hunt. We would not see your faces anymore.
If Watson and people like him want to do something useful.....GO to Africa and save a few children.
At least seals are culled humanely and for a purpose...the kids of Nigeria are not.
See ya Paul when you tie up in Africa...HA! HA! HA! HA!

They aren't Rocket Scientists
written by Stephen H, April 06, 2008
I completely deplore whats going on in this country season after season. Every year it's the same old story of the Civilized World against a bunch of barbaric fisherman.

How can anything logical and organized be ever achieved if the receiveing end have a hard time to "walk and chew gum".

The real issue that I want addressed is how the federal government allows all this to go on without stricter guidelines.

We need better leadership and reinforced policies.

When Moral Superiority Backfires
written by Sean, April 06, 2008
Why was the mob there?

From Canada.com:

"The confrontation was in protest of comments Watson made the day before when he said the Magdalen Islands sealers' deaths were a tragedy, but the slaughter of young seals is a "greater tragedy."

"Our anger was stronger than anything else and we didn't wait for the authorities to react," St-Pierre fisherman Carl Beaupertuis told Radio-Canada, the French arm of CBC.

On Friday, Watson stood by his words.

"I said the sealers who died, it was a tragedy and the Canadian government's incompetence led to the deaths."

He added: "Killing 325,000 seals is a far greater tragedy . . . and I stand by that comment."

>>>

I'm not sure what kind of person would choose to save hundreds of thousands of seals (presumably unendangered ones at that) over the life of a loved one, but I can't imagine that they'd be popular in many places.

I would like to know how Mr. Watson adds up each respective tragedy and is therefor able to say with certainty that one mother's grief for the loss of her son is far less than the grief felt for the loss of a hundred thousand baby seals.

If it is just a numbers game, then how does the Farley Mowat's crew expect to win any hearts or minds over with such a comment? Watson played his hand too hard, too early and he's lost more support than he could have possibly gained from such a blatantly insensitive display.

Had he put away the vitriole and mourned alongside the fishing community, perhaps he could have made converts out of a few.

Instead, by remaining a bitter adversary, he has made things worse for himself and his cause; in directly comparing the two tragedies he has foisted a morally distasteful dilemma upon those who would sympathize with him: how many seals is one human life worth?

To answer easily favourably for either side only shows blindness -- Watson can't see the human for all the seals. I guess he doesn't care.

What do you expect from cement heads
written by William Taylor, April 06, 2008
With all due respect to the cement heads who are stuck in the 1800's with their beliefs that raping the natural resources of Canada is the way to provide for their families....Attend something called "school" and I don't mean grade school, try secondary school or even, god forbid, university or college and follow this simple plan

1. Go to school
2. Get educated
3. Get a real job that doesn't rely on snuffing out life
4. Make real money using your brain instead of clubs.

I'll end this by stating that we all know this is clearly impossible because it requires intelligence, for-thought, years of study and training and god forbid, relocation away from a poor area of Canada.

We all know this isn't going to happen as fisherman fall in with ditch diggers, street sweepers, garbage men and janitors. They are stupid, don't know any better, or aspire for anything greater than what they currently are.

You cannot change stupid people, and as long as raping Canada's natural resources is legal, these cement heads will continue to do it.

They must be crazy
written by Adrian Hollohan, April 06, 2008
Reading some of the above post i was shocked. I mean really shocked. I am a Newfoundlander and i grew up arround fishing all my life.

I personaly never took part in the seal hunt, but if i had the opportunity i think that i would.

Some of you have the mentality that the seals are (human like). what i mean is that you apply human charactics to what you see in them. You see a cute face and you think as if its something you have to protect, much like a mother sees her baby.

Now with that said, you should really think about some things.
A seal is no different than a cow or pig. we use their skin and flesh in the same way. yes it is true that a lot of the seal flesh is discarded during the hunt.
But, i am sure that if there was a market and that it was feasible to bring it to shore then that too would be all harvested.

You have to realize that for some families the seal hunt is how they put cloths on there childrens back. It comes down to there kids or a animal on the ice. What would you choose.

One other thing i would like to say to the person who made the comment about the sealers who died.
I wonder how you would feel reading your comments if it was your son, brother, father or husband that died.

People should think before they type.

Terrrorists
written by Ben Z, April 06, 2008
I morn the death of people who have died trying to put food on the table for there families. These sailors are peace loving Canadians trying to survive harsh times and they have done nothing wrong. They are not criminals in any land or by any measure of the any law. Why are they being criminaly persecuted? Who is the destroyer of life?
Is it not a crime that a conservation group should choose such a dangerous course of action to forward there personal agendas? They are putting fathers and sons at risk of death by, quoted from Mr Watson, "didn’t endanger the sealers by pursuing their vessel or chipping away at ice they were standing on." End Quote. What exactly do you think would happen when they fell into the freezing waters?Do you not respect a mans life and his right to live? Who by god are you to judge? Then the group uses the defense that there is no law at sea, the defense of a pirate. Pirates flaunt the law for there own profit.
So who is the criminal, who is the terrorist, who is the killer? I feel Mr Watson should be prosecuted to the fullest letter of the law, and the Sea Shepard society for supporting the terrorist agenda. There is no place in Canada for such criminal disreguard of human life. The only laws broken are by you and your gang of thugs Mr Watson.

yearly fund raiser
written by Wayne, April 06, 2008
What we are witnessing is the "Sea Shepherd"'s yearly fundraiser. They simply change gears from their less known whale protection indeavors to a much more media friendly project on Canada's east coast. They try to compare the annual seal hunt of an animal, which is definately not in danger and has trippled its population since the 70's, with the much more endangered whale hunts around the globe. The only positive thing is that there are less whale hunts and less media coverage for the organization.

Captain Watson, who was definately kicked out of Greenpeace, is now armed with a bunch of young inexperienced volenteers who have followed him to sea with their hope to save the world. Unfortunately his actions towards both living and dead fishermen have put his whole crew in danger. His antics at sea are putting both him and his crew in danger.

Their flag has small subtle differences from a pirage "Skull and Crossbones", and the Farley Mowatt prowdly advertises the many fishing boats that it has been involved in sinking.

Shame on the Sea Shepherd, hopefully the negative press you recieve on this one will reduce your funding arrangements once and for all. You are lucky that you are dealing with a very patient Canadian Coast Guard....many other contries would not put up with your actions.

I'm Not Ready to Make 'Nice'
written by watson, April 06, 2008
I’m Not Ready to Make Nice

Commentary by Captain Paul Watson
Founder and President of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

As the Dixie Chicks said, “I’m not ready to make nice.”

I have no apologies for defending the seals from their killers. Bullies are notorious for whining like victims when the tables are turned.

Apparently, the sealers and the Canadian government are upset with me for making the following statement:

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society recognizes that the deaths of four sealers is a tragedy but Sea Shepherd also recognizes that the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of seal pups is an even greater tragedy.

“One of the sealers was quoted as saying that he felt absolutely helpless as he watched the boat sink with sealers onboard,” said Captain Paul Watson. “I can’t think of anything that defines helplessness and fear more than a seal pup on the ice that can’t swim or escape as it is approached by some cigarette smoking ape with a club. This is a seal nursery and these men are sadistic baby killers and that might offend some people but it is the unvarnished truth – they are vicious killers who are now pleading for sympathy because some of their own died while engaged in a viciously brutal activity.”

I’ve been asked to apologize, and I’ve been accused of being insensitive. A reporter from Halifax who I spoke with today was very angry and kept asking me how I dared to equate the lives of humans with the lives of seals. “These are animals,” he said. “Yes, and from what I remember from my biology classes, we are animals also,” I replied.

The following statement was issued by Canadian Fisheries Minister Loyola Hearn:

By attacking and trivializing the memory of these men who tragically lost their lives, Mr. Watson has proven to the world that he is gutless, shameless, and has not one shred of human decency. His lust for media coverage knows no bounds.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I want to once again express our condolences to the family and loved ones of these sealers.

Our government has said that it will stand up for the safety and security of sealers, and I want to confirm that the militant actions of the Sea Shepherd Society have not gone unnoticed are currently under investigation.

It is difficult to seriously accept criticisms of insensitivity from men who bash in the skulls of baby seals, and I have to say that the opinion of Canada’s Minister of Fisheries means very little to me. After all I did not kill those men – the Canadian government did.

It was Hearn who authorized the use of unsafe vessels to kill seals. It was his government’s direct incompetence that resulted in the deaths of the four sealers. So Hearn’s statement about standing up for the safety and security of the sealers is hollow to say the least.

When did documenting the slaughter of seals become a militant action?

I do not trivialize the death of these men by saying that the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of sentient beings is a greater tragedy. I deplore the fact that government incompetence resulted in the death of four sealers, but it is the same incompetence that has resulted in the collapse of the fisheries, and it is Hearn's political ambitions that continue to support and subsidize an industry that has no place in the 21st Century.

If expressing condolences to the families of the sealers helps Hearn to sleep at night, then so be it. The fact is that these men died because of the government of Canada, and I expect and anticipate that it will attempt to make Sea Shepherd the scapegoat for its incompetence.

The oldest political trick in the book is to deflect criticism by focusing hatred onto another party. Hitler did it with the Jews, and Hearn is trying to do the same with us.

This is not anything new. The Canadian government has been using seal defenders as a distraction for years. By getting east coast fishermen to hate environmentalists and animal defenders, it can reduce criticism of the notorious management problems that caused the total collapse of the cod fishery.

I find it amusing that the sealers expect me to be “sensitive” to their feelings. This bunch of men on the Magdalen Islands beat the crap out of me in 1995. Thirty of them jumped me in my hotel room, but then that is to be expected from bullies. I did manage to take two of them down with a stun gun before falling before their fists and boots, but that day I was very “sensitive” to their feelings--I felt every blow.

In 2005, the sealers attacked and assaulted my crew on the ice, striking them with sealing clubs, destroying cameras and spilling our blood onto the ice. Not one of them was charged, despite the entire assault being documented on camera, because the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that we had “provoked” them by opposing their killing of seals.

Today I received the following message from a man who described himself as a Newfoundland sealer:

Hi Mr. Watson,

I was appalled by your lack of sympathy for the loss of the human lives last week as those sealers lost everything when they drowned in those frigid waters!!

Environmentalists like you make me sick!! Your total lack of respect for human life and your overly protective attitude towards animals is indicative of how extremists like you want to control things. I am a well educated man from Newfoundland currently living in Atlantic Canada and I support the seal hunt, I support the seal fur trade!! There is no greater pleasure than clubbing a baby seal and feeling that skull collapsing and watching them trying to crawl away and then smacking the little shits again. It ideally should be accomplished in one blow but sometimes it takes two or even three!! Hey all the little bastards do is eat fish and defecate so we are getting rid of animals that do more to destroy ecosystems of fish than are actually contributing to more stable ecosystems. Besides seal meat tastes great and the fur is warm. Baby seal meat is exceptionally good!!

You're no better than the animals you protect and I for one will never support any organization which you are affiliated with.

Good day to you "Mr." Watson

Gene Kelly
gene256@h—mail.com

I especially like the compliment that he gave me with the last line. That is the entire point. We are no better than the animals, and their lives do count, and I have no apologies for saying that the slaughter of 325,000 seals is a greater tragedy than the deaths of four seal killers.

I did not say that their death was not a tragedy. Of course it is, and the government of Canada should answer for it, but it must be remembered that the 325,000 seal pups are innocent sentient beings minding their own business, helpless on the ice, new to the world, viciously assaulted, clubbed, shot, skinned alive in some cases, kicked, and slashed.

The men who died chose to be out on the ice in inferior vessels. They made the choice to be sadistic killers. Was I being insensitive to the families of the men with that statement? Possibly so, but then I have seen a mother seal grieving for days over the skinned frozen carcass of her pup. I have seen mother seals attempt to nurse their dead baby, and none of these images have caused the sealers to feel any pity or remorse.

I have been accused of not being sensitive to the way of life of fishing families, yet I was raised in an east coast Canadian fishing village myself, and as a child, I bore witness to the brutality of fishermen killing seals, shooting at dolphins and whales, torturing sea birds, and tossing garbage and oil into the sea. I don’t respect commercial fishermen in general, because I have seen first hand what they have done, and I have witnessed their incredible arrogance in believing they have the right to do whatever they wish, whenever they wish, to any creature they wish.

Yes, I am sure there are a few exceptions, but generally, commercial fishermen are an ecological menace. The oceans of the world have been systematically devastated over the last few generations, and both life and diversity have been greatly diminished. We are now fighting last stands against poachers in marine reserves, national parks, international sanctuaries, and World Heritage sites. And we are losing. The onslaught of humanity--with such vast numbers, such voracious appetites, such efficient technology, and such vicious ruthlessness--coupled with overall human apathy is destroying the very planet upon which we live. So it is hard for me to be “sensitive” to the feelings of fishermen just because four of them died while raping the sea.

We at Sea Shepherd merely report on what we see, and during the last week we have seen and video-taped a seal pup being skinned alive. We have seen seal pups thrashing about in agony on the ice as their blood is splattered across the floes with every convulsion of their young bodies. We have seen a seal pup trying to escape its killer with an eyeball dangling from its socket, trailing a stream of blood, searching desperately for protection or a place to run to. Unable to swim, unable to escape, unable to defend itself--this is the very definition of helplessness.

There are those who are appalled at any comparison between human lives and the lives of other animals. There are even a few ignorant people who deny that humans are also animals. There are those who feel that humans are divine, special, superior, or the only animals with emotions, souls, and capable of thought and reasoning. They are wrong.

During the years that I have traveled to the ice floes, I have noticed that all of these baby seals have different personalities. They display curiosity, they express fear, some are docile, and others very animated. They are individual sentient beings, and their lives are as sacred--as meaningful and as important as ours.

Humans forget that without diversity we could not survive. We ignore the fact that our voracious appetites have cut a swath of death and destruction throughout the oceans, from which they will never recover. Every commercial fishery is in a state of collapse. More marine mammals are going extinct and will go extinct in our generation than we have lost since the Jurassic period some sixty-five million years ago.

A report said today that I should issue an apology to the sealers for equating their lives with those of the seals.

I will not.

I have acknowledged that the loss of the four sealers from the Magdalen Islands is a tragedy. But I insist that the cruel and remorseless on-going slaughter of 325,000 seals is a greater tragedy.

This is not a seal “hunt.” There is no stalking, no outwitting of the prey, no danger from the animal, and no challenge in shooting and clubbing seal pups that can’t escape or swim. This is a cold and merciless slaughter that has no place in the civilized world.

End the Seal Slaughter

There is a time and place for everything...
written by Tom J., April 07, 2008
Mr. Watson -

I cannot and will not argue your passion for the creatures of the sea. I won't get into complicated dances of words, posturing, or accusations related to your work that seem to follow you like a dark cloud.

What I will say is that there is a time and place for comments like you had made, and it certainly was not the right time for words as hurtful as those. Although you may certainly believe that the greater numbers of seal deaths are the bigger tragedy, but you must know that there are children, wives, and other family members who are mourning at this time, and your words are simply rubbing salt into wounds of people who may never have supported seal hunting after their loss. It is simply cruel to the family. Cruelness to these third parties is unnecessary, and not a way to "get back" at the people who died. Let the families mourn their loss, at least for a little while, before going on the attack and trivializing their loss.

I believe you have done yourself and your cause more harm than good with your statement last week. Attacking people when they are mourning is an excellent way to galvanize their resolve and unite to never cooperate with any conservationist efforts. (I believe the port incident illustrates that quite plainly)

Why will they take this position? They won't do it for the memory of their loved ones, they will do it for the memory of you spiting their loss.

I've been there!
written by Andre, April 07, 2008
In 2005 I joined the crew of the Farley Mowat and sailed into the killing fields of the Gulf of St Lawrence. Let me speak with authority when I say the killing of baby seals (whitecoats, beaters, whatever!) is inhumane and horrific.

Armies of sealers jumping off their boats to club, skin, and return to their boats in search of more seals. It is a game to them. A game to kill and skin as much as one can before the deadline ends.
I saw animals skinned alive. And don't give me that "reflexive" response b.s.
The sealers do not care about the humane treatment of the dying seals. Time is money and the more time you waste on humane treatment the more money you lose to the next fishing boat over.
I saw so many seals "struck then lost",who after being stuck in the head or shot that they dove into the water never to be seen again, that I lost count.
To top it off was the attitude of these "brave men who are only trying to support their families" They enjoy the killing. They enjoy the slaughter. And after the Canadian's government successful blame-game reversal, where they pinned the collapse of the cod on the seals rather their own bungling, the sealers absolutely delighted in taking their anger out on the wild life.

There are not honest or kind men. They enjoy killing for the sake of inflicting pain. They enjoy the torment and the blood. They are not hunters. They are sealers.

A typical baby seal killing fan wrote the following and I have taken the liberty to correct his mis-statements:

"What we are witnessing is the "Sea Shepherd"'s yearly fundraiser. They simply change gears from their less known whale protection indeavors to a much more media friendly project on Canada's east coast."

If one wanted to be a marine conservationist then one could not find a better poster boy to oppose then the seal hunt. The largest slaughter of marine mammals in the world. Their cuteness is not a factor. One would be in dereliction of their duties to be a conservationist by not opposing this slaughter. 300,000 animals, in the first months of their lives, clubbed to death. Civilized societies do not even treat stray dogs this way.

If one really believed that Mr. Watson received such a large cash infusion from his opposition then end the hunt. Nobody wants to put Mr. Watson out of business then himself. I just wish the SSCS got as much money from this atrocity as the Canadian government gives to the sealers.

"They try to compare the annual seal hunt of an animal, which is definitely not in danger and has trippled its population since the 70's, with the much more endangered whale hunts around the globe. The only positive thing is that there are less whale hunts and less media coverage for the organization."

The only people who suggest the seals are increasing in numbers is the DFO who work for the sealers. Remember them? They are the SAME exact agency who told the Canadian people that the cod where not collapsing.
Remember back then?
It was the SSCS (along with the scientific community) who was arguing that the cod stocks were collapsing. It was the DFO who said everything is fine. Just on that track record who would you believe today?

"Captain Watson, who was definately kicked out of Greenpeace, is now armed with a bunch of young inexperienced volenteers who have followed him to sea with their hope to save the world. Unfortunately his actions towards both living and dead fishermen have put his whole crew in danger. His antics at sea are putting both him and his crew in danger."

We volunteers know exactly what we are getting into. Evil progresses when good people do nothing.

"Their flag has small subtle differences from a pirage "Skull and Crossbones", and the Farley Mowatt prowdly advertises the many fishing boats that it has been involved in sinking."

Yes, outlaw pirate whalers like the SIERRA. Ships who are flagrantly violating international laws in their over-poaching of the marine environment. Are you defending these ships? Which of these poachers did you have sympathy for. And remember that all these ships were sunk with out ANY harm to any person.

"Shame on the Sea Shepherd, hopefully the negative press you recieve on this one will reduce your funding arrangements once and for all. You are lucky that you are dealing with a very patient Canadian Coast Guard....many other countries would not put up with your actions."

As this is not about funding I can guarantee you that the SSCS (and myself) will be out their in the future. As long as the world's largest slaughter of marine mammals continues so will the Sea Shepherds. With each campaign more volunteers get more hands-on knowledge with marine direct-action conservation. It will be around longer then Watson and it will move past Watson. They only way to get rid of us is to stop the seal slaughter.

The Canadian Seal Holocaust
written by Peter, April 08, 2008
In actuality, the seal "hunt" brings in about 5% of the "fisherman's" annual income, the rest is subsidized by government unemployment money. 95% of the fishermen have drunks and/or drug problems, they are notorious addicts, but this is kept out of the press for obvious reasons. Most of them are either drunk and/or high on drugs while driving their boats around murdering these defenseless seal pups. They are numbed out, that's how they can do it, without any restraint. They are so high, and on such a free ride, that they have to protect their dirty little secret at any cost. This is typical addict behavior, and their addiction is controlled by one heavy handed condition. They must kill a specific number of seal pups, ordered by the canadian government, or there is be no money for their drug and alcohol addictions. That's the truth, and it's an evil cycle that's been going on for years.

Look up the info and do same RESEARCH!
written by Don B, April 08, 2008
ok, I'm sick and tired of the BS you environmebtalists are spouting.

1. The Seals are not CLUBBED or Bludgeoned. If you look at the regs and actually talked to the Sealers, The Seals are shot, and then cut behind a flipper to provide a HUMANE DEATH.

2. The Dolphin slaughter in Japan, wasn't a real slaughter, it was in actuality staged by the filmographers who paid the locals to trap and kill the dolphins so they could edit the footage to provide the selling video to make a false statement and cash. The same thing happened with the Kangaroo's in Autralia.

3. Check your sources for information. Peta, Sea Shepard and thier ilk are not good resources. they cut, paste and modify all of their footage to get the results they feed off of.

For god's sake, use your brains, and remember we are on top of the food chain here and that someone has to do the dirty work so the rest of us can live.
