From sea to shining sea, standing on guard
for thee, Viva Mexico! However you say it, North America is coalescing
into a single entity, an amorphous blob of sorts.
Some call it
"Fortress North America," this collection of fear-strained, underwear
stained, quivering coward-citizens who would surrender freedom and
decency for the false promise of protection from a fictional foe by
proto-fascists playing out a script as old as tyranny.
What began as an
uniquely America delusion, triggered by the 9/11 attacks, and manifest
as the cancer known as 'The War on Terror' has spread, metastatized in every capital of what once was called 'The Free World.'
Mike Palecek is a prolific American novelist whose books, 'Terror
Nation,' The American Dream,' 'The Last Liberal Outlaw,' and 'Searching
for Bigfoot,' chronicle the twilight of American democracy and death of
the myth of moral exceptionalism, all written from the heartland of
that sad country. Palecek's latest title is, 'Iowa Terror,' another
portrait of life lived devoid of meaning in the Homeland. Mike Palecek
and the search for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in
remnant America in the first half. And; this past weekend saw a massive turnout at a march and demonstration orchestrated by the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, and directed at British Columbia's forest industry. Getting down to the demonstration and walking along with the crowd at the rally to protect B.C.'s ancient forests and ban again raw log exports in the second half.
And; Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that's good to do in and around the lower island in the coming week. But first, Mike Palecek and Iowa Terror.
