Pacific Free Press was launched in March 2007 by Dutch-Canadian Richard
Kastelein of V.O.F. Expathos, in the Netherlands along with Chris Cook- CFUV radio journalist and Editor in Chief of Pacific Free Press. Cook is based in , Victoria, British Columbia.
The site is a sister to Atlantic Free Press and Brick Ogden an American Expatriate in Amsterdam has been a key supporter of this project.
The mission of Pacific Free Press is simple: to dig out nuggets of truth from
the slag-heap of lies, ignorance and witless diversion that has buried
public discourse today. Pacific Free Press provides a new venue for
disseminating hard news and insightful, fact-based analysis of the
harsh realities too often ignored or distorted by the mainstream press.
Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Katherine Hughes, Stephen Marshall, J9 Feb. 11, 2008
This week: Justice activist, Katherine Hughes following the persecution of Dr. Rafil Dhafir, still imprisoned nearly five years after his bogus arrest; award-winning film maker and author, Stephen Marshall on the betrayal of the left and Wolves in Sheep's Clothing; and Janine Bandcroft brings us up to speed with all that's good to do in and around Victoria in the coming week.
Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific
Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at:
http://cfuv.uvic.ca . He also serves as a contributing editor to the
web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com . And, you can check out the GR
blog at: http://GorillaRadioBlog.blogspot.com
Two weeks shy of five years spent enduring the gross injustice of
the American prison system, Dr. Rafil Dhafir, a Rome, New York-based
oncologist has filed an appeal in hopes of finally seeing justice done.
Dhafir was swept up just weeks before the launch of Operation Iraqi
Liberation in 2003, the charge: Sending life-saving aid to
sanctions-crippled Iraq.
Katherine Hughes lives in New York state and
sat in on Dr. Dhafir's trial as a court observer for the American Civil
Liberties Union. In the hysterical Iraq war atmosphere in the United
States, her accounts of the circus masquerading as jurisprudence is an
invaluable chronicle of a single instance in the larger, and more
ominous attack against the founding principals of justice in America.
Katherine Hughes and a kangaroo's tale from down under the 49th
parallel in the first segment.
And; has the left entirely departed
Democracy station? Despite the hoopla and hype surrounding the
gradually impending election down south, there is a political crisis in
America, and in those countries most closely in its orbit.
In Britain,
and Canada, and Australia, as in America, governance today consists of,
as Gore Vidal puts it "one political party...which has two right
wings."
Though not discussed on CNN, or FOX news panels, the truth of
the situation is: It makes not the slightest difference if Hillary, or
Obama, (or whatever punching bag the Republicans throw into the ring)
gets elected, policy, especially foreign policy, will follow the
same disastrous course charted by two Bush administrations.
Stephen Marshall
is an award-winning Canadian film maker, author, and co-founder of both
Guerrilla News Network, and the ground-breaking Channel Zero. His films
include 'Battle-ground: 21 Days on the Empire's Edge,' 'This Revolution,'
and the soon to be released documentary, 'Holy Wars.' Stephen
Marshall's book titles include 'True Lies,' co-written with GNN
colleague, Anthony Lappe, and his latest, 'Wolves in Sheep's Clothing,'
where Marshall travels the breadth of the new empire, from the front
lines of Iraq to the backroom cocaine parties of the intellectual
elites in Britain and America.
Stephen Marshall and all about Hillary
in the second half.
And; Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom
of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that's good to do in and
around Victoria in the coming week. But first, Katherine Hughes and
Doctor Rafil Dhafir's weary quest for American justice.

Pacific Free Press is a new sister site to Atlantic Free Press (already a Google News Source). Like AFP, PFP is not a simple news aggregator. All of our writers have been contacted, have joined the site and said they will contribute their editorials that appear on their own blogs or are syndicated elsewhere - and - some have stated they will provide original work that will be initially exclusive to Pacific Free Press. The sheer amount of writers working with Atlantic Free Press has brought us to the point where we felt we need to divide some of the material by starting a new site.
Using our Open Source content management system (CMS), Joomla, our writers use a WYSIWYG editor to contribute their submissions and images and we publish upon review - it's cutting edge participatory journalism.
We have set up an Author's Guide which is used for training the writers on Joomla, podcasting (yes we podcast), and other emerging methods to communicate their media.
We don't comb the net, hunting down articles, that we would 'like' to appear in our publication and have been working for over a year to put together a core team of people to work with us.
The mission of Pacific Free Press is simple: to dig out nuggets of truth from the slag-heap of lies, ignorance and witless diversion that has buried public discourse today. Pacific Free Press provides a new venue for disseminating hard news and insightful, fact-based analysis of the harsh realities too often ignored or distorted by the mainstream press. We have over a dozen PHD's on our writer's list - from all parts of the globe.
Key writers who are onboard and will provide original work include:
Some of our other writers include Andrew Bard Schmookler, Anwaar Hussain, Chris Floyd, Craig Murray, Dave Lindorff, David Swanson, Doug Mitchell, Frank Pitz, Ingmar Lee, James Kunstler, James Petras, Jason Miller, Jennifer Matsui, Jeremy R. Our strategy for Pacificfreepress.com is to provide pennings from dissident and alternative writers (Libertarian and Left) whose work does not appear in Google News due to the lack of solid, reputable sources for work of this kind. Google News is a rather fair and level playing field - with mathematical algorithms as it's objective editors rather then inherently subjective humans. Hence the importance of us being part of the roster at Google News.
We feel that creating another vehicle for the West Coast and East Asia Region (as opposed to Atlantic Free Press) will allow more direction towards producing works from a variety of Asian and Pacific West Coast voices which would be a great resource for Google News and an outlet for alternative and dissident journalists that don't normally get mainstream media coverage.
