Pacific Free Press was launched in March 2007 by Dutch-Canadian Richard
Kastelein of V.O.F. Expathos, in the Netherlands along with Chris Cook- CFUV radio journalist and Editor in Chief of Pacific Free Press. Cook is based in , Victoria, British Columbia.
The site is a sister to Atlantic Free Press and Brick Ogden an American Expatriate in Amsterdam has been a key supporter of this project.
The mission of Pacific Free Press is simple: to dig out nuggets of truth from
the slag-heap of lies, ignorance and witless diversion that has buried
public discourse today. Pacific Free Press provides a new venue for
disseminating hard news and insightful, fact-based analysis of the
harsh realities too often ignored or distorted by the mainstream press.

Last week, an impressive array of Arab leaders joined George W.
Bush and Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert at the Annapolis Naval
Base in Maryland, ostensibly to explore ways to end finally the
Israel/Palestine impasse, and bring peace to the greater Middle East.
Expectations were reportedly low going into the meetings, with the
exclusion of representation from the current government-elect of the
Occupied Palestinian territory, Hamas, and barring of both Lebanon's
Hezbollah and Iranian representatives.
So, what then was Annapolis
meant to achieve?
Joel Kovel is an activist, scholar,
educator, and author of numerous articles, reviews, and medical papers,
and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the quarterly publication, Capitalism
Nature Socialism. Some of Joel's many book titles include: 'The Enemy
of Nature: The End of Capitalism or the End of the World,' Red Hunting
in the Promised Land: A Study of Anticommunist Repression in America,'
'History and Spirit,' 'The Age of Desire,' and the recently released,
'Overcoming Zionism: Creating a Single State in Israel/Palestine.'

And; as the occupation of Iraq grinds
on into its fifth year, the corporate/state news narrative of the
disaster has changed remarkably little. Despite the hundreds of
thousands killed, and millions maimed and displaced, it is still
possible in 2007 to switch on network news, or open one of America's
major daily papers, and find praise for the havoc wreacked upon the
heads of a population already suffering in 2003, when the infamous
'Shock and Awe' campaign officially kicked off, the deleterious effects
of the longest international embargo in history. The pitiful reportage
leading up to the Iraq invasion, and mewling acquiescence to the
official party line since is just one of the reasons journalism, as
practiced by the likes of CNN and the New York Times, is today
received, if not with outright derision, then at least with a pound,
not a pinch, of salt.
Fortunately for those out there
interested in gleaning an authentic picture of what in the world is
going on, there are individuals unencumbered by cowardice, or
careerism, willing to take the risks necessary to bring back the real
story. Dahr Jamail was not a professional journalist when he decided he
could not abide the lies and propaganda dished up to provide cover for
what lay behind his country's invasion of Iraq. The Alaska mountain
guide determined to go to Iraq, find the truth, and bring it home. He
has since been lauded by some of the finest journalists in the world.
Dahr Jamail and 'Beyond the Green Zone: Dispatches from an Unembedded
Journalist in Occupied Iraq' in the second half.
And; Janine
Bandcroft will NOT be here this week to bring us up to speed with all
that's good to do in and around Victoria, but should return next week.
