Pacific Free Press was launched in March 2007 by Dutch-Canadian Richard
Kastelein of V.O.F. Expathos, in the Netherlands along with Chris Cook- CFUV radio journalist and Editor in Chief of Pacific Free Press. Cook is based in , Victoria, British Columbia.
The mission of Pacific Free Press is simple: to dig out nuggets of truth from
the slag-heap of lies, ignorance and witless diversion that has buried
public discourse today. Pacific Free Press provides a new venue for
disseminating hard news and insightful, fact-based analysis of the
harsh realities too often ignored or distorted by the mainstream press.
This week, Jameel Jaffer from the America Civil Liberties Union and 'Torture and the Rule of Law: Three Narratives
About Abu Ghraib;' American peace activist, Alison Bodine on being deemed criminal in Canada; and, Janine Bandcroft brings up to speed with good goings-on in and around Victoria in the coming week.
Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca . He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com. And, you can check out the GR blog at: http://GorillaRadioBlog.blogspot.com

How much more must be revealed? How
gruesome must this project for a new American century become
before
the good people of the United States, Canada, and the rest of the
countries still willingly supporting the so-called War on Terror stand
up? How much more
before we say, No more? What we have
witnessed these past years of naked aggression and the wanton murder of
innocents abroad has too a parallel enabler at
home, in the
heart of the home of the brave. As much a grab for resources and global
dominance, America's imperial architects aim too to subdue
constitutional
limitations and prohibitions and the rights of
the citizenry to achieve their goals. But, there still remains in
America opposition to Empire's requisite horrors. Jameel
Jaffer
is director of the American Civil Liberty Union's National Security
Program, and author of 'Torture and the Rule of Law: Three Narratives
About Abu Ghraib,'
and co-author of the soon to be released,
'Administration of Torture,' an account of the court case, ACLU v.
Department of Defense. Jameel Jaffer in the first
segment.
And;
there is a price to be paid for disobedience. Increasingly, American
citizens demanding their government adhere to the rule of law are
classified as criminals. This
classification has broader
ramifications, as many who attempt entrance into Canada are
discovering. Canada, under the minority government leadership of
Stephen
Harper, a noted neo-con sympathizer and base operative
for the domestic economic and imperial geopolitical endeavours of the
current American regime, has
"harmonized" much of its border
security and federal law enforcement infrastructure with the U.S.
Working in tandem with the American Federal Bureau of
Investigation,
Canada now actively refuses entry into the country of peace activists,
and in at least one case, Canada's federal police arrested and detained
an
American citizen, presumably for her political activism.
Alison Bodine is a central organizer with the Vancouver antiwar
coalition's Mobilization Against War &
Occupation (MAWO),
and the President of the University of British Columbia's Coalition
Against War on the People of Iraq and Internationally (CAWOPI). She's a
long-serving executive committee member of the UBC Social
Justice Center, prominent activist in solidarity with Cuba and the
Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba,
and a supporter of
immigrant and refugee rights in Canada and the US. Alison Bodine's
testament to Canada's lost sovereignty in the second half.
And,
Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us up
to speed with all that's good to do in and around Victoria in the
coming week; but first, Jameel Jaffer and the tortured rule of American law.
G-Radio is dedicated to social justice, the environment,
community, and providing a forum for people and issues not covered in
