About

Pacific Free Press was launched in March 2007 by Dutch-Canadian Richard Kastelein of V.O.F. Expathos, in the Netherlands along with  Chris Cook - CFUV radio journalist and Editor in Chief of Pacific Free Press. Cook is based in , Victoria, British Columbia.

The site is a sister to Atlantic Free Press.

The mission of Pacific Free Press is simple: to dig out nuggets of truth from the slag-heap of lies, ignorance and witless diversion that has buried public discourse today. Pacific Free Press provides a new venue for disseminating hard news and insightful, fact-based analysis of the harsh realities too often ignored or distorted by the mainstream press.

THE FACE OF GEORGE W. BUSH
by Jack Random
There are a growing number of people in the world whose worst nightmare begins with the enduring image of the face of George W. Bush. A face that once seemed harmless, marked by a boyish workingman charm, now triggers revulsion for many Americans and citizens of the world alike.

The face of George W. Bush is indelibly connected to virtually everything that has gone wrong with American government, from an electoral system that makes such a presidency possible to the wholesale corruption, incompetence, cronyism, hypocrisy, dishonesty, disinterest, arrogance and yes, a thousand times yes, the ignorance that has come to typify the Bush White House.

THE JAZZMAN CHRONICLES:
DISSEMINATE FREELY

From the face of George W. Bush has emerged some of the world’s most infamous malapropisms, misspeaks, deceptions and outright lies, including innumerable rationalizations for unnecessary war, imaginary weapons of mass destruction, and the fantasy of a mushroom cloud direct from Saddam Hussein to an American city near you.

As we look at the face of George W. Bush, berating his opposition to “support our troops”, we recall a pattern of extended tours of duty and redeployments of the National Guard and Reserves on an unprecedented scale. We recall the stern warnings of military experts that any further burdens could break the back of the Guard and push the armed forces to the tipping point. We recall the conditions at Walter Reed Hospital, the initial glimpse at an overburdened veteran’s health and medical care system, and we cannot but be filled with outrage.

As we hear the president, nodding and sneering, spout on about progress and victory in Iraq, we recall the flag-draped coffins so long blocked from our view and we reflect on soldiers with missing limbs, paralyzed bodies and profound mental disorders. We wonder at the true total of Iraqi dead and wounded, a truth we will not begin to understand until long after the last bullet is fired.

As the face of George W. Bush cites the latest proof of progress, we begin to realize that death, itself, the death of Iraqis at the cost of American lives, is progress in the twisted, distorted vision of our president.

As the face of George W. Bush pays lip service to the crisis of global climate change, even while his administration fights for the right of the Environmental Protection Agency not to do its job, even as they push for more coal burning plants and nuclear power, even as he continues to oppose the Kyoto Accord, even as New Orleans remains in ruin awaiting the next catastrophic hurricane, and our hearts burn with contempt.

If there is anyone left in this world who finds comfort in the face of George W. Bush, it is compelling evidence that he or she has lost touch with reality.

Even the most loyal Republican followers must finally agree with this simple dictum: Saving the face of George W. Bush is not worth another life lost, another nation destroyed, or placing the planet in peril.

Since the November election, when the American electorate made it clear we no longer supported the president’s war, some 480 American soldiers have died (Iraq Body Count). No one seems to know how many Iraqis have died in the same period -- perhaps as many as 10,000 according to Newsweek online. Every one of those cold, mindless tallies represents friends, families and faces that will not be forgotten.

When you gaze at the face of George W. Bush, remember them.

End the war. End the occupation. Now.

Jazz.
