Many months ago, I sent you an email concerning Dr. Sami Al-Arian, a Palestinian American you managed—by way of the bully pulpit of your television program—to have arrested for crimes he did not commit, as a jury of his peers acquitted him on eight of 17 counts of terrorism, while remaining deadlocked 10-2 in favor of acquittal on the other nine.
During Al-Arian’s trial, the FBI admitted intercepting 472,239 telephone calls on 18 tapped lines over a ten year period but none involved any discussion of an attack against the United States or demonstrated advanced knowledge of attacks in Israel. In fact, the intercepts occurred before Palestinian Islamic Jihad was designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization in 1995.
Of course, the real issue here, for both you and the government,
is that Dr. Sami Al-Arian supports the struggle of the Palestinian
people. In short, Al-Arian is a political prisoner, although I am
certain this is not of concern to you, or is the fact Al-Arian is
interned in a rat and cockroach infested cell and has lost 55 pounds
since January, when he declared a hunger strike in response to the
inhumane conditions he suffers under. I am certain, as well, you are
satisfied with the fact a federal appeals court has upheld a civil
contempt ruling against Sami, thus raising the disturbing prospect that
he may well spend a very long time behind bars, even though he was
acquitted and obviously innocent.
Mr. O’Reilly, I believe you
suffer from a serious personality disorder, as it is obvious you are
driven to dominate, are quick to anger, and are indifferent to the fate
of others. In short, you suffer from social aggression, also known as
bullying. I also tend to believe you are a sadistic sociopath and
secretly revel in the fate of your victims.
For instance, it is
not enough to simply disagree with Rosie O’Donnell—you are determined
to have ABC fire her, even if this results in the destruction of the
popular television show where she exercises her First Amendment right.
As for the billionaire Mark Cuban, apparently involved in an effort to
distribute the film “Loose Change,” you would have “thrown his butt in
jail.” It is simply not enough to disagree with your victims—you are
determined to make them suffer.
However, your affliction is
particularly apparent and disturbing when it comes to the comedian Al
Franken, who lampooned you in a popular book. I can only imagine what
you would do if locked in a room with Mr. Franken for fifteen minutes.
I am sure it would be worse than what you did to Jeremy Glick, whose
father died in the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center. Rumor
has it Mr. Glick had to be escorted out of the Fox studio pronto, as
you experienced violent urges after the interview.
In order to
better understand your illness, I read the entire Andrea Mackris sexual
harassment complaint. It was not the lewdness of the document—the
Caribbean shower fantasies, the telephone sex, the masturbation after
interviewing porno stars—that disturbed me, but rather the degree of
your authoritarian bullying and the way you completely exploited the
fact she worked for you and felt indebted to you in order to advance
her career. After reading the document, I wanted to take a shower,
suffice it to say not Caribbean.
Of course, as a wealthy
celebrity, all it takes is a lot of money to make problems disappear,
and that is apparently what you did in regard to Andrea Mackris, as the
media at the time speculated you paid her between $2 and $10 million to
go away. Indeed, Mackris went away—but you remain saddled with your
serious mental and behavioral problems, the fetid passel of it all
eagerly and shamelessly enabled by Ruppert Murdoch, Roger Ailes, and
Fox News, to say nothing of an indeterminable number of reactionary
neocon wannabes.
Finally, it would be sincerely interesting to
examine the results of a psychometric assessment conducted in your
case. I suggest Adorno’s F-scale personality test, which gauges
authoritarian aggression, destructiveness, projectivity, and sex. I bet
your results would be a bell ringer.
Incidentally, the “F” stands for Fascism.
