Thank you! Its refreshing to see an analysis that doesnt mimick the propaganda distributed in the States about "Iran's pro-syrian proxy", hezbollah, mounting a coup in Lebanon. All the news media very purposefully exclude the fact that the opposion is not only made up of Hezbollah and Amal, but also lebanon's largest christian party, The free Patriotic Movement. That party's leader, Aoun, fought hard to get Syria out of Lebanon. he is hardly fighting now to get them back in! This is an inconvinient truth that the West wants to bury. The tensions in lebanon are not pro-syrian or anti-syrian, just as they are not shia vs. sunni. They are better described as pro-US or anti-US, the rich in power fighting off the hordes of the poor and underrepresented. - a guest

Fisk is not wrong. It is really a double whammy by the Imperialists.

West gave billions in loans to Hariri. Then he could not deliver on his promises to imperialist loan holders. So he was eliminated by those loanholders.Imperialists formula
is to destroy the country utterly, then put a puppet government and force the puppet government to award new
building contracts to the corporations from the lending
countries.Give the destroyed country new loans to build
a little and plunder the rest, with puppet government
promising to pay the total debt.Deduct the money due
from previous loan and give the rest of the loan money
to the puppet government, with instructions on how to
transfer that money in western banking heavens like
Bahamas or Cayman Island where it can not be traced.
Bahamas,Cayman Island and other destinations involved
in this kind of transactions are colonies of old impe-
rialist countries like Britain,France and US.In Lebanon's
case they want a puppet ruler because of its strategic
location,as well as puppet's commitment to payback the loans by several times the amount(by forcing to reduce the
exchange rate of $ and Lebanese currency)and helping the regional bully Israel to dominate the region and keep the holocast of Palestiniann people going. These so called Christian countries have killed a million civilian Iraqis
since 2003 for 2800 or so killed in World Trade Center attack. That is more than 300 times of 9/11 deaths.Iraq population 28 million,US population over 280 million,i.e
one tenth the population of US.Multiply the 300 by 10 and you get 3000 times. For every one killed in World Trade Center, they have killed 3000 Iraqis, not counting the thousands killed in Afghanistan by bombs and AC130 spectre gunships. You decide, how Christian are these invaders or
Christian Jihadis. - a guest

Hardly a Surprise

This seems to be Fisk's modus operandi wherever he goes in the Muslim world. He essentially takes one side and champions it over another, usually choosing that favored by imperialists, left or right. This has generally been a sunni/shia thing of late in Lebanon and earlier in Iraq. "Nationalists" are his particular target in many cases.

But even in the first Gulf War, he slandered Turkey while it was assisting Iraqi Kurdish refugees, trying to further drive a wedge between Turks and Kurds which imperialists have managed to do rather successfully since WWI.

Creating and sustaining religious and ethnic divisions is the hallmark of imperialism. Fisk seems to be aiding this cause all too often. - a guest
