A very nicely written article. The only quarrel I have is with the statement: “The state of Israel believes in ensuring its survival.” If only. This statement perpetuates the myth that the poor innocent little state of israel is, in fact, facing Olmert’s manufactured “existential threat” at this time, and is under constant seige at all times. The truth of the matter is that the racist, and expansionist pariah state of israel believes only in ethnic cleansing, in the theft of land and water, and in the brutal and murderous expansion of the borders it refuses to delineate. Otherwise, sadly, I have to totally agree with Mr. Chartier’s glum assessment.
