			<description>In Response to Roger Helbig - Depleted Uranium Champion
(arbuthnot's experience with Roger:
http://www.thepeoplesvoice.org/cgi-bin/blogs/voices.php/2007/02/16/they_ve_sent_helbig_after_me)
You bring up some interesting points about two prominent opponents of Depleted Uraniums' deleterious effect on human and animal physiology. I've interviewed one of those, (and found it one of the strangest interviews I've ever conducted) but I don't see in your letter any mention of those effects.
You mention DU munitions were developed as an anti-tank weapon. Is it only being used on tanks, Soviet or otherwise? The answer is clearly: No.
The efficacy of DU-tipped ordnance is not a significant issue, as pertaining the pollution created by it. But, there are studies of similarly tipped, non-nuclear active elements that provide, if not equal, then near identical results; tungsten most prevalent of these.
You mentioned in your previous comment, (not particularly respectfully worded) the fact DU is not an explosive; the damage done to people and, all living things by this material is the result of it's tendency to aerosolize on contact; the fine particles are then dispersed through the atmosphere where they are easily breathed in, and find entrance to the body through cuts, acne blemishs, pores, and are small enough to lodge in the body, ultimately able to corrupt the DNA structure. But, I'm sure you're aware of all this, and would denounce it all as lies.
I expect too, you've seen the photographs taken of birth defects suffered by Iraqi children. Though his name now escapes me, the most famous of those photos were taken by a Japanese photo journalist. The army likely has volumes of documented illnesses among vets, though I suggest you canvas an organization like Veterans Against the War in Iraq to see what some of their members say.
DU is admitted to have being used by America and her allies (Britain primarily) in: Iraq and Kuwait ('91), Yugoslavia ('99), Afhganistan ('01), and Iraq ('03-). Of course it has also been used on test ranges in the U.S., and by the Navy at Vilques Island, Puerto Rico for years. Check the health status of some of the &quot;down-winders&quot; of those facilities, and I think you'll find cancer &quot;hot spots.&quot;
Roger, it is clear, regardless of the absence of the Soviet threat, these weapons are continuing to be manufactured and used. Beyond the obvious moral oblivion America has now descended to, and what that means for the victims of its use, Depleted Uranium poses a great risk to not only those deploying it, but to all creatures in the proximity of its use. The deleterious environmental effects of this material are long-lasting, long after any illegal, or &quot;santioned&quot; military action, DU continues to represent a threat to the ecology of the planet; its half-life is estimated at 4.5 billion years.
Finally, I suggest, if you are to educate people, you might tone down your ad hominem attacks on those holding opposing points of view, (ie. not calling them &quot;liars,&quot; etc.) and refrain from equating &quot;indepedents&quot; as those incapable of holding down a paying job in the field; your confessed status as an &quot;independent researcher&quot; being a case in point.
And, to answer your question: No, I will not remove any remnant reference to Drs. Rokke and Moren, though I don't believe I have any, based on what you have presented so far.
cheers
chris

			<title>False &amp; Misleading Information About Depleted Uranium</title>
			<link>http://www.pacificfreepress.com/news/1/2775-sam-seeking-injuns-for-war-party.html#comment-2032</link>
			<description>Thefollowing statement is totally untrue -
&quot; Should you return home from warfare your body may be filled with depleted uranium.  These weapons are designed to kill the “victims” and to contaminate you for an early death to cut down on medical bills.  “Depleted uranium” used to make “dirty bombs” destroys the soil and the poor people in these Middle Eastern nations&quot;

DU kinetic energy penetrators were used to destroy Iraqi armored forces. They are only good against tanks, so they have not been used since. DU, naturally occuring Uranium 238, found in everyone who is reading this's backyard, is not explosive and would make an extremely poor dirty bomb. It is not even used in bombs. They are designed to kill modern Soviet designed tanks, not to kill people unless they also happen to be tank crew in a targeted tank. It has not destroyed the soil anywhere. I see the &quot;A War Against Truth&quot; advertised on the side. The anti-depleted uranium crusade is fighting a war against truth; they may broadcast their lies from a 1000 lists, but they still remain lies. Want to learn about DU, go to www.depletedcranium.com or click on the link in my name. You can also write to me and I will connect you with genuine experts.
