John Edwards is definitely the choice for '08. We need a President who will stand up for the middle class and protect American jobs. Edwards has taken the lead on health care and is the only major Presidential contender who opposes "free trade" agreements. I agree that Edwards is a sure winner for Democrats as his populist style would attract working class-middle class voters. - Right Democrat

Author response

To Notso Random: I like Ron Paul. Though I do not agree on all issues, I like his approach and his sincerity. Were he to run as an independent, I would consider supporting him. I do not, however, agree that he is a stronger antiwar candidate than Dennis Kucinich - and Kucinich is much closer to my ideological leanings. How about a Kucinich-Paul or Paul-Kucinich campaign? I like it.

To Leanne: I am in agreement that corporate media are a prominent factor in marginalizing candidates who do not serve their interests. Corporate sponsorship is another - which makes the populist stand of John Edwards paradoxical.

To Judy and the Red Stater: What a place to find Duncan Hunter supporters. Alright, he is more than a one-issue candidate but his campaign is anchored to the wall on the southern California border. Hunter largely defines the far right on abortion, gay rights, school prayer, security over civil liberties and, most critically, denial of the human contribution to global climate change. I like his opposition to "free trade" but cannot abide his anti-labor stance. International labor rights is the answer to the immigration conundrum. Ironically, his fair trade advocacy is probably why he cannot gain the corporate sponsorship necessary for wider support in the current electoral system.

Judy is correct.
Duncan Hunter is the ONLY candidate with a plan for stopping China from cheating on trade with the US, the only candidate that has introduced legislation every year to BAN ABORTION, the only candidate who has a son who has served in Iraq (Afghanistan too !) Hunter is the ranking member of the Armed services committee and has the respect of the military already, he is a sponsor of the FAIR TAX, a champion for 2nd Amendment rights... and oh yes, he is the author of the Border Fence Bill. - red s tater

You can't say Duncan Hunter is a one-issue candidate. Yes, illegal immigration is a big one. He wants to secure the borders, protect America, bring jobs back to the U.S., promote fair trade, fix healthcare, etc. Go to his site and see where he stands on the issues. He is right on every single one.

lower tier

I think that the mainstream media is making the news instead of reporting it. I suppose that their parent companies stake in the military industrial complex has a lot to do with that. War is profitable to them. Only candidates that support the war, or will take their time withdrawing troops get coverage. These are the media annointed top tier. Hopefully people around the world will wake up, and see that this isn't just an American problem. The mainstream is showing more than just bias, they are playing dirty tricks to smear serious candidates, or cut them out all together. Hopefully the internet can enpower people to get a wide range of views on domestic and foriegn policies, as well as to be able to research all of the candidates platforms. If there is a candidate they resonnate with, I hope they contribute to the campaign, even if the poll numbers look low. I know that on the republican polls, lower tier candidates were either not listed or bunched all together under "other".These were automated polls, and if you pressed the number on your phone for "other" you were also told that you would be taken off the the lists of future polling. On polls that did list a lower tier candidate,(not sure if automated or not) the poller bundled that poll with other polls, usually asking very uncomfortable questions about the persons sex life. If you didn't answe the questions to that poll, all of the bundled polls were scrapped. - Leanne

What about Ron Paul?

Representative Ron Paul is the only remotely antiwar Republican? He wants to close most if not all of the 140 U.S. military bases around the world, as well as bring our men home from Afghanistan as well as Iraq, now (though he supports the effort to find bin Laden). Even Kucinich is a hawk compared to Paul, and Hillary, Obama and Edwards are outright bloodthirsty.
