The Dems’ First Step on Iraq: The Kind of Hearings We Need |
The solution is simple |
1. Withdraw all American and other allied forces back inside their own boundaries in one month - no longer. Do not redeploy troops somewhere else;
2. Apologize sincerely to the Iraqi people and to the rest of the world for our transgressions and arrogance;
3. Provide humanitarian assistance, ensuring that it will be used only by Iraqi people and Iraqi companies and only for non-military, humanitarian aid. No Marshall Plan, but lots and lots of reparations. |

As America Slept |
Still Snoring |
Mr Hussain:
America still sleeps . . . and dreams of SUVs with cheap gas; Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, and Mel Gibson; of a magic "return to normalcy" through the "democratic election" process; of new XBoxes and Playstations; of Oprah, Dr Phil, and "Cheaters".
These dreams are the product of a mass, long-term consumption of a barbituate named "Americanism." The side effects of this addictive soporific include progressive narcissism and consumerism, together with delusional thinking, detachment from reality, and almost total denial.
Like all addictions, the victim must "hit bottom", admit and accept the truth, suffer through withdrawal, and build a new life based on more selfish principles and actions. None of this is achievable on one's own. It occurs through external intervention and support and guidance.
Perhaps, as you say, some Americans have awakened. But as a nation, we still sleep.

The Best Reasons Not to Impeach, And Why They're Wrong |
Many more deserve impeachment, including Congress |
You make the most detailed and logical reasons for impeachment I have read so far. For that, I thank you.
But Pelosi, Reid and others in the Democratic leadership have rejected impeachment out of hand. Perhaps, then, the more difficult question is "how do we make Congress a responsible body?"
The Democrats' speedy acquiescence, with little or no debate, to the Gates nomination is indication of how they will act during the next two years. Congress is as constitutionally culpable as Bush, Cheney, etc., by abdicating their responsibility to declare war and oversee waging it.
One can only conclude that Congress is compliant, even conspiratorial in allowing the administration's criminal acts with no opposition or movement toward justice. Since Congress will not indict itself, it will fall to the people to make the changes.
Instead of the occasional demonstration, there must be a continuous and, hopefully, escalating non-violent cry for resolution, and even possible referenda pushing Congress to make good and make us whole again. |

Let Things Ripen Some on Impeachment: Patience Will Be Rewarded |
|
Andy, my friend, God love yuh. As far as Pelosi and the DLC are concerned, impeachment will ripen like orange peels in the compost pile behind P Street.
When McKinney submitted HR 1106, it was assigned to committee with no fanfare and most likely will never get another co-sponsor nor see the light of day. |

Sell-Out Democrats Have Walked into a Bush Trap on Iraq |
|
There is nothing that better predicts future behavior than past behavior. Therefore, to expect that the Democrats, who have consistently supported the administration's juggernaut, to suddenly reverse themselves makes no sense.
The past two years has been a total waste of time for the Left, who instead of organizing a vital third-party movement, decided to concentrate on "reforming" the Democratic Party through Howard Dean. Sheer folly, that. |

Obama for Prez: A Quieter Ugliness |
Dreaming on . . . |
Bob Dylan said it best Norm (Talkin' World War III Blues, 1963):
Well, now time passed and now it seems
Everybody's having them dreams.
Everybody sees themselves walkin' around with no one else.
Half of the people can be part right all of the time,
Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all of the people can't be right all of the time.
I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
"I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours,"
I said that.
